A huge mistake a lot of us make when it comes to our health and fitness goals is comparing ourselves to other women. We compare ourselves to fitness models, celebrities, and the Perfect Housewives of Newport Beach or Santa Monica or wherever it is those Perfect Housewives on those Perfect Housewife shows live.
We compare ourselves to Sally Slim next-door who, even though she has four kids, is in better shape at 35 than she was when she was 19. She’s perfect. Why can’t we look like that?
We develop a picture in their mind of what we think we “should” look like.
Then we get discouraged because we don’t believe we can ever achieve that sort of body. Some of us can, and some of us can’t. Looking like a fitness model or Taylor Swift or Kim Kardashian or a Perfect Housewife isn’t a realistic goal for a lot of us.
So we give up and don’t do ANYTHING.
When I stopped (a lot of my) comparing myself my other women, I became much happier and was able to work toward my goals, make progress, and be proud of the progress I was making, which made sticking to my program so much easier…
Each day I got a little better. Each week I was better than the last. Sure, there were setbacks, but overtime, my results were so much better this way, and I finally had peace of mind.
Instead of comparing yourself to others…
Compare yourself to yourself. Compare where you are today, with where you were yesterday and last week and last month.
Compete against yourself. Do better than you’ve done. Eat healthier. Workout harder or smarter. More reps or weight. Whatever it is.
Accept yourself and work toward being the best version of YOU that you can be.
THAT’s how you make progress. THAT’s how stick with it.
And you’ll be a lot happier than if you try to make yourself into something or someone you’re not. At least that’s been my experience.
